God is good to my children!

Paul Francis writes about God’s goodness to his children.

Our son has had glue ear since he was very small and has struggled with his hearing. When this was diagnosed, we were warned that his speech would probably be affected, as would his school work. He would also be likely to have frequent earaches. None of these things happened, but he continued to fail hearing tests at every check-up.

He has had grommets fitted into both ears, which helped for a while but they both eventually fell out. Before Christmas last year he went for a check up and was told that the hole for one grommet had healed but that ear was no longer draining properly and so he had lost his hearing in that ear again. The other ear was working but the grommet hole had not healed. In fact, it was the hole that meant the ear was draining properly. However, cosmetic surgery would probably be required to fix it.

He has also suffered from asthma particularly triggered by hayfever. This has contributed to the glue ear, so he has not grown out of it as many children do.

A few weeks ago he responded to a call for healing and then went along to his next check up. His hearing in both ears was normal and the holes in both ears had healed properly! He also has not had any need for his asthma inhaler yet this summer. God is good!!

A week after she was born our youngest daughter had to go back into hospital with what we finally discovered was pneumonia. Clearly, while she was in hospital, several people prayed for her and after a week she came home fully recovered. We were warned that being so ill so young would mean that when she next had a cold she would struggle, but praise God, when she had a cold all she had was the cold – no breathing problems at all!

As she started to walk we noticed that she was limping slightly. After visits to various consultants this was diagnosed as arthritis in one ankle joint. But by the time we saw the arthritis consultant, her limp had gone and the diagnosis was only made by blood test. Apparently it is “very unusual for arthritic joints to clear up by themselves”!! The medics then told us that unfortunately arthritis in one so young can have repercussions, especially with sight. The medical risk of eye damage is raised by various factors, all of which she exhibited, so the risk at the first test was estimated at 1 in 3. She would have to be monitored by the eye hospital every four months until her teens. Every visit since then has shown that her eyes are perfect and there are no signs of inflammation. And every clear test reduces the risk that anything will happen.
