How students can live life to the full in Manchester

Reuben Cole encourages students coming to Manchester to serve the purpose of God.

I remember someone once saying, “Find out what God is doing in your generation and throw yourself into it.”.

As I thought about the above statement two questions came to mind: What is God doing in this generation? And how will he do it?

I believe God’s purpose for this generation, like every generation is for his Kingdom to increase; that is his rule and his reign to be everywhere displayed. And for his glory, which is his splendour, his majesty and his fame, to cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.

And how will he do this? Through a people, a people committed to serving this very purpose, a people full of the Holy Spirit and a people who love one another. These people today are called the Church. And so, everything God will do in this generation will be through the Church.

For it will be through the Church that the Good News of Jesus Christ will be preached, lives changed and hearts transformed. It will be through the Church that God’s power will be manifested, signs and wonders performed and many people healed. And it will be through the Church that his Kingdom will extend and his glory will cover the earth.

The Bible says that David “served the purpose of God in his own generation.” David understood the times he was living in, what God was doing and how to get involved. He did not allow the generation in which he lived to pass him by but claimed it as ‘his own’. Like David we have to realise that the timeframe in which we live was created just for us, this is our generation, we were born for such a time as this.

Coming to university is exciting as it is challenging. Everything will change from what you have experienced before, but let me encourage you to allow it to change for the better. For as well as living in a new home, meeting lot’s of new people, visiting new places and beginning a new educational course, God’s purpose is for you to get involved in a local church, a church where there’s life, a church that’s committed to serving the purposes of God in this generation.

I believe as you do this you will have an amazing year, a year filled with adventure, a year where you’ll never be the same again and a year where you’ll truly serve the purposes of God in your generation!

“Tomorrow’s world will be ruled by the radical men and women of today’s world who live, as their forefathers did, in the light of God’s purpose.” Bryn Jones.

Class of 2008 graduating in Cardiff

Members of King’s Church were delighted to welcome 19 new School of the Word students into the church family on Sunday 7th September. The new students have arrived following the move from Cardiff to Manchester of Covenant School of Ministries: School of the Word. David Emmett, one of the elders of King’s Church, has taken over as the principal of the school, which is now hosted within the King’s Church facilities at King’s House in the centre of Manchester.

Richard Anniss, speaking on behalf of the King’s Church eldership team, says the church is excited at both the privilege and opportunity of hosting the school. “We’re thrilled to have the new students amongst us and trust we’ll be a real blessing to them as a church community.” David Emmett, representing School of the Word says, “This will undoubtedly be a life changing year for the 19 students accepted on to the year. Studying at School of the Word is not about a student gaining private information to expand their intellect; it’s all about their personal transformation to benefit the world”.

Covenant School of Ministries: School of the Word is a 10 month course in Biblical Studies. This year’s intake will graduate on 13th June 2009. You can find out more by clicking here.
